In 2014 we purchased a home in Reno Nevada that was built by KB homes in 2010. We love the neighborhood we’re in, but settled for the home because of availability at the time. I have to say everything about the home, including architecture is pretty terrible. We’ve had to remodel fix virtually everything in, on, and around the home. Things like needing to straddle the toilet to close the door in the master water closet, reworking, and replacing and reconfiguring the garage door installation because of a low hanging beam in the garage that made it impossible for a traditional garage door opener to work properly. That’s the poor architectural part. KB Holmes managed to assemble the absolute worst subs in the area. The fit and finish of everything was just terrible, our front door is a quarter inch out of plumb, every wall inside is not square. All the baseboards look like they were put on by a kindergartener. There’s a large lump in the sheet rock in the staircase. The exterior paint was extremely thin, it appears to have been watered down. In places where they had to touch up, it didn’t match. The landscaping was atrocious, they just laid the grass on clay, road base and construction rubbish. The electrical is not up to code, and a fire hazard. I found splices behind the vanity lights that were done in the wall outside of a junction box. All the electrical boxes are at different heights. All the flooring was garbage, the doors are garbage, all the appliances had to be replaced within three years. There was a tile missing on the roof since it was constructed, from where the roofers had attached their fall protection. They never bothered to pull the anchor and replace the tile. It had been exposed to rain and snow for 5 years before I found it after we moved in. Basically, if you buy a home built by these guys just know that you’re gonna have to fix everything, they build everything as cheap as possible, with the cheapest subs they can find.
